What is Vehicle-to-Grid V2G Technology?
What is it?
Vehicle-to-Grid V2G technology is an advanced system where electric vehicles (EVs) not only charge from the grid but can also send electricity back to the grid when needed. In this system, EVs function as mobile energy storage units, allowing two-way energy flow.
How does it work?
V2G technology operates on bi-directional energy flow (G2V and V2G). When electricity demand is low, EVs charge (G2V). When the grid is under load, electricity flows back from EVs to the grid (V2G). This maintains grid stability and enables maximum utilization of renewable energy.
Where is it implemented?
A pilot project for this technology has been launched in Kerala. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and IIT Bombay have jointly implemented this initiative. It is a significant step toward promoting innovation in Kerala’s energy sector and strategically increasing the use of electric vehicles.
