1. When and where did the attack take place?
On April 22, 2025, terrorists attacked tourists in the Baisaran Valley located in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, Jammu & Kashmir. This region is near the Amarnath Yatra route and is popular among tourists. The attackers emerged from dense forests and opened indiscriminate fire, causing chaos at the scene.

2. How many people were affected?
At least 28 people were killed and over 20 injured in the attack. Among the deceased were 24 Indian citizens, 2 local residents, and 2 foreign tourists from Nepal and the United Arab Emirates. The injured included people from Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra.

The attack was claimed by the terrorist group ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF), which is an affiliate of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. They stated that the attack was in response to the settlement of over 85,000 outsiders in Kashmir, which they considered demographic change.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the attack and cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia to return to India. Home Minister Amit Shah visited Srinagar to review the security situation.
